Educating girls results in fewer child marriages, fewer deaths from childbirth, lower birth rates, and a narrowed pay gap between men and women - in short, educating girls saves millions of lives. Yet millions of girls are still being denied an education - almost a quarter of all young women around the world will not complete primary school.
This short virtual reality film will honor the struggle girls face in seeking an education by following five young girls, from vastly different worlds, as they simply walk to school. Using the encompassing technology of virtual reality, and intercutting between each environment, we will experience the vastly different contexts - from a remotely rural panorama to a busy urban cityscape - that each girl traverses daily. In each setting, with each girl, we virtually walk a mile in her shoes.
This film would be an ideal companion piece for initiatives working toward access to education, gender equality, infrastructure and development, and CSR ventures from books to backpacks to shoes.
